
Ericeira (2002 pop. 6593) is a fishing and seaside resort small city in the west coast of Portugal, about 50km to the northwest of Lisbon.
The Ribeira d'Ilhas beach which routinely hosts a World Surf Championship round and which is widely regarded as one of the best beaches in Europe for the practice of this sport is located 2 km to the north of the city.
Ericeira is a part of the Mafra concelho.
The name originates from Ouriceira, an Ourico being an see-urchin, like the one on the coat of arms.
